Alex Ryckman Mellnik is a highly skilled Data Engineer with a passion for solving complex technical and analytical problems. With over 7 years of relevant experience, he has a proven track record of delivering innovative solutions to some of the biggest names in the tech industry. Currently, he is working at meta, where he leads a small team to improve data foundations for real-time communication products across the Facebook family of apps. Prior to joining meta, Alex worked as a Software Engineer at Google, where he designed and implemented experimental changes to notifications and resource management in Google Cloud Console. He also led the development of new features for data aggregation and summarization in CGP. Later, he joined Rigetti Computing as a Senior Software Engineer, where he created a pipeline for predicting low-temperature device characteristics and simulating device performance using design, manufacturing & metrology data. He also developed new software and data structures for creating, manipulating, and storing the intended Hamiltonians for quantum integrated circuits. Alex holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Physics from Cornell University, where he conducted extensive research in the field. He also earned his Bachelor's Degree in Physics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. With a strong foundation in both physics and computer science, Alex possesses a unique skill set that allows him to approach problems from multiple angles. Alex's technical expertise includes Data Engineering, Software Engineering, and Research Science. He is always eager to take on new challenges and is constantly expanding his skill set to stay ahead of the curve.
